There is no organization in the BC Interior that treats injured or orphaned wildlife. Currently, whenever one of these animals is found by a member of the public or a conservation officer, they are taken to local vet clinics where they are euthanized regardless of condition or ability to be rehabilitated due to lack of resources.
Wild Things will end this unnecessary loss of wildlife.
We have three pillars to our mission:
After many years of doing wild animal rescue work on her own time, Sydney Platz could clearly see the need for a dedicated wildlife rescue and rehab center in the Okanagan. The challenge: she needed to get set up as a charitable organization in order to transform her dream into a reality.
The creation of every charity brings its own challenges, and the world of animal welfare is no exception. Our role was to ensure Wild Things gained charitable status, ensuring that all their programs – from animal rescue, to education, to advocacy – were covered in their application while also navigating new and confusing systems that had just been put in place by the CRA.
Cadence worked together with Sydney to create a framework to properly set her charitable organisation up for immediate utility and ongoing success. The organisation has big goals and Cadence helped create a charity that meets both its current needs and its future plans, with the central mission of helping prevent and resolve human-wildlife conflicts.
Previously, advocacy work like this had been highly regulated in the charitable sector and, while it is now allowable, Cadence was able to work with Sydney to ensure all her advocacy programs fell within CRA’s policies and guidelines, without raising any red flags.
Through our persistence and diligence, Cadence was able to overcome all of the roadblocks and successfully achieve registered charitable status for Wild Things within just 9 months, which is actually a very short timeline for charitable registration! Today, Wild Things is a respected animal welfare organisation, and we at Cadence are the go-to compliance experts for many charities that support animal welfare.
